Striking swift and deadly before receding into the night, the electrified rock 'n' roll fuzz of a Riviera Playboys show is intimidating, raw, and primal. Straight outta East Main Street, the Rochester trio shakes it wild and loose from the sonic garage --- loud, tight, and intense. As opposed to the anal retro approach to the 1960s sound so many other bands take, the Playboys play real garage rock with originality and guts, volume and violence. It's like a kick in the groin from Tura Santana.
